The suspect was brought in for a retrial of a rape case after the previous trial resulted in a hung jury. Here, he managed to grab a deputy's firearm and cold-bloodedly executed the judge, Rowland Barns, a court recorder, and a sheriff's deputy, as well as wounding a female deputy in the mouth. After escaping, he hijacked a reprter's car after pistol whipping him, then drove off. He would have faced life in prison, but now, since Georgia is a death penalty state, he could face death.
If there was ever a reason for the death penalty, thsi would be it. This person has, in my mind, forfeit his life after pulling this stunt off. But, I believe he would either take the coward's way out (suicide), or get killed in a shootout with police.

The murderer of a judge, a court stenographer, a deputy, and, now, a Immigrations and Customs Enforcement agent, has been captured without incident after a hostage situtation in an appartment complex just north of Atlanta. As of this editing, the suspect, Brian Nichols, is being transported to, what it seems, federal jail awaiting processing.
