Peace Protester Goes Not So Peace on a Woman
04.25.05 (1:47 pm)   [edit]

Hat tip: Little Green Footbals

It started out as a typical Wednesday for Preckshot, a 49-year-old who stands about 5-foot-2 and has hearing aids in both ears. She was standing on her normal spot on Providence Road, holding her signs in support of American soldiers in Iraq and Afghanistan. For nearly four years now, this has been Preckshot’s life from about 4:15 to about 5:45 in the afternoon once a week. She started her solo troop-support effort to counteract the peace protesters who stand a couple of blocks away at the intersection of Providence and Broadway. The peaceniks hold signs that say things such as “honk for peace” and “end the occupation.”

Nothing wrong there, all is fine. Everyone is praticing their right of free speech.

Then the tension goes up a little:
On this particular Wednesday - it was March 16 - her effort seemed to annoy a couple of the protesters. Not satisfied with their own peace protest, a pair of peaceniks grabbed their signs and made their way to Preckshot, who normally stands outside the Bloomers flower shop near Locust Street.

Now, before I go on, this woman, Rita Preckshot, is a former police officer, so she can handle herself without much problems.

Then, the tension jumps:
The man stepped closer. She backed off a step. He shoved a sign in her face, and she backed off once again.

She is trying to diffuse the situation, trying not to get this man upset.

Now, not to bore you any further:
“He started taunting me and reached out and pushed on my shoulder,” Preckshot says. “Each time he pushed, it got a little harder. When I saw his hand come at me again, I grabbed it. I felt fearful.”

As Preckshot pushed the man’s hand away, “he slugged me right in the face,” she says. (Emphasis added by me).

Unbelievable. She was just voicing her own view, not causing any problems what so ever.

The suspect, Paul Allaire, now faces a count of third degree misdemeanor assault for the punch. But that is not all. This "peacenik" is also facing a charge of resisting arrest.

What the Hell was his reason for confronting her? This reeks of irony:

"The only reason I even approached this woman was to try to understand where her extreme hatred came from,"

Wow. You know that sign he shoved into her face? Well, it had President Bush in a Hitleresque outfit and pose. Now, whose the one with the extreme now? What this guy did was disgusting. The sign he was holding is also tastless. You would never see me with a picture of John Kerry in a Vietcong outfit on because I don't agree with his view on the Vietnam war then.

While both sides have extreme hate for each other, it seems like it is the left that is always out there with their Bush=Hitler signs and anti-Semitism signs.

Unrest in China
04.17.05 (7:20 am)   [edit]

I wish that the Chinese people would rise up against the Commies ruling their country, but I won't hold my breath. Now, the Chinese citizens are protesting (violently, I might add) over Japan's WWII atrocities against China. This all started when Japan approved school books that downplayed the Hirohito empire's invasion of China and the ensuing crimes there.

Now, I am a little upset about Japanese school books glossing over the Japanese crimes in WWII, but I am not protesting at Japanese embassies (I doubt there is one here in MI). Japan must never forget what happened in WWII, or they may be doomed to repeat it again, with very grave consequences. But what gets me is that China would not appolgize for their citizen's criminal behavior (throwing rocks and the embassy, which then destroys the windows). Why isn't China cracking down on these protest? Oh, wait. They would only do that if people are protesting the government. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tiananmen_Square _protests_of_1989" title="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tiananmen_Square _protests_of_1989" target="_blank"http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/...

I do not know how advanced the cancer is, but if he caught it early enough, he will survive it. Let's hope for the best.

Pope's Failing Health
04.01.05 (7:58 am)   [edit]

The Pope is in his final hours of life. He has been stricken with heart failure, kidney failure, and septic shock. My mother, who is a RNA, said that he will die within a few hours, based on the information we had. To the younger people, this is the end of an era, and will witness the election of the next Pope; to the older generation, it is a sad day, whether you are Catholic, Christian, or any other religion.

I hope that Pope John Paul would die in peace, and be with the God that he so faithfully served.

Update: Fox just confirmed that Pope John Paul II has died today.
