"The Faith of My Fathers"
05.30.05 (5:53 pm)   [edit]

I just finished watching A&E's original movie, The Faith of My Father's, a movie chornalcling John McCain's days as a POW in Vietnam. This movie showed what real torture is: multiple beatings, hanging by your wrists, inhumane living conditions. But this not only showed McCain's POW days; they also showed the times when he is in the Naval Academy in Anapolis, the treatment there, and other aspects of his life. It starts from when he was shot down to when he was finally released.

To me, this movie shows who the real war criminals were; the Vietnamese Communists who ran both the government and the prison that McCain was kept in. If any of those hippies had been in what McCain was in, they would have changed their minds, unless they were still on the pot, so there is no help there.

But what happened to the Vietnam war vetrans after they returned from conflict is just as inhumane; the throwing of shit, the degergation of the troops by using words such as "baby killer" and "war criminals" (which pretty much described the NVA and the VC), and other instances, like "Hanoi" Jane Fonda appearing on Vietnamese AA guns to demoralize our brave men and women in 'Nam. It disgusts me to no end.

Would I recommend this movie? Yes, I would, but I would suggest that young children not be present during its viewing, there are a few graphic scenes and some cursing.

Some Notes and Observations
05.22.05 (1:41 pm)   [edit]

Item 1, Newsweek:
Well, by now everyone knows about the Newsweek fiasco. Newsweek used only one source to authenticate the story, as opposed to multiple sources. Whether Newsweek is intended for the riots to happen or not is up for dicussion. I doubt that they wanted the riots to happen. Now that the story has been discredited, this may get some news organizations to better look into their sources and verify the stories further. Did Newsweek intend to make President Bush look bad? Maybe, maybe not. But this is another major blow to the MSM, as far as their credibility is concerned. Too many organizations are getting politics injected into newscasts, whether liberal or conservative.

Newsweek has lost a lot of credibility and trust over this, and it will be a Hell of a long time before they can regain the trust with the general public.

Item 2, Saddam's Whitey-tighties:
Have you seen the images of Saddam Hussein in his skivvies?

When I first saw this on Friday morning, I was lucky to have finished my breakfast. The Butcher of "Sag"dad? Seeing Saddam in his underwear is like seeing Rosie O'Donald in the nude. Ugh.

What happened here is that the tabloid, the Sun I believe, somehow got a hold of these images from someone inside the US military. The military has rightfully condemned this action and has called for an investigation into who had the images. From some of the angles that I have seen the pictures of him, it looks like they may have came from a security camera.

One way or another, who ever released these needs to answer for their actions.

Item 3, Judicial Fillibusters:
Sometime this week, there will be a showdown on Captiol Hill over the judicial nominees of George Bush. While the Democrats allowed a vast majority of Bush's nominees to receive an up-or-down vote, they have blocked 10 of the President's choices from an up-or-down vote.

Now, back when the Republicans were the minority during the Clinton-era, they rarely blocked nominees. We gave them yea or nay votes. Now that we are in power, the liberals have obstruct almost everything Bush has set out to do. The fillibuster should not be used to block nominees, no matter how bad Congresspeople think of them.

I support changing the Senate rules to ban judicial fillibusters. That is all that is needed. If the Democrats follow their threat of shutting down the government, they will pay dearly for it. It would be political suicide.

Well, that is all for today. Hopefully, after May 27 (last day of school for seniors), I would be able to post more.

Well, what the Hell happened?
05.16.05 (12:56 pm)   [edit]
A few days ago I came here to see what is going on, but when I tried to access it, all I get is the home page to tblog. So I created a new blog at http://commadore.blogspot.com/" title="http://commadore.blogspot.com/" target="_blank"http://commadore.blogspot.com.... So now if something happens to the blog here, look to the backup blog at the address I just gave, so bookmark it incase you cannot access this blog. Hopefully this will not happen to often.

A Request to the Left
05.11.05 (1:36 pm)   [edit]

My request is this: I would want some liberal blogs to add to my blog roll. Of course, I will have the final say in which makes it onto the list. One thing that I will ask is this: I do not want any conspiracy blogs that talks about Karl Rove theories and insult the President on a lot of issues (like calling him a war criminal, a liar, Chimpy, Hitler, etc). It does not go with rational thought.

So, if you know a liberal blogs that fall under these criteria, leave their address in the comments section and I will check them out.

Democratic Underground
05.11.05 (1:31 pm)   [edit]

Some of you may have heard about the Democratic Underground, a web site that allows members of the progressive side of politics to discuss issues surrounding America. I have never been there, and today, I am taking a foray into the website. I heard that they have some crazy, hateful things posted there, so I decided to check it out.

On the front has the POTUS in some kind of golf cart with pics of Osama bin Laden and Abu Musab al-Zarqawi with the caption "We Are Very Good Drivers." What the Hell that has to do with bin Laden and Zarqawi is beyond me.

I then went to the Discussion threads and then went to their breaking news area. I checked out their rules for posting in their LBN (Latest Breaking News), and here's one that stood out to me:

Discussion of Israeli/Palestinian issues is not permitted in the Latest Breaking News forum, and instead must be posted in the Israeli/Palestinian Affairs forum. If, however, the news item is primarily about U.S. policy in Israeli/Palestinian affairs, you may post it in the Latest Breaking News forum.

Why that stands out to me is unknown to even me.

I looked into their thread about the recent evacuations at DC, and here is the original post, unedited:

MADem
MSNBC, breaking, will post link once I find one....

They are reporting that the WH is being emptied as well, fighter jets overhead (one just whipped by my house); they believe it is an airspace incursion...perhaps accidental?

One reporter said that the phrase "enemy aircraft overhead" was used.

Jesus!!!!

And here are some of the replies:

Kinda commical.

Whoa_Nelly
Damn! Am watching this on CNN right now, and due to my complete lack of any faith in this administration, I have to wonder if:

A) As the "story" unfolds, will the pilot turn out to be a "brown-skinned" person?

B) Is there anyone on Du who has seen the footage of the grounded plane that can find out who owns the Lancaster-based Cessna?

C) Is this whole "emergency" a Rove wet dream brought to fruition to help push the poll numbers up, as well as to divert attention from the bad press and reception Shrub has been receiving while on his mega-taxpayer paid expense trip abroad?

Is there any journalist bold enough, savvy enough to dig deep enough into this continuing alert BS that consistently happens when the numbers are down?

I am so goddam sick of the current state of our out-of-control government!

A Rove conspiracy theory? Well, that is one rumor that I heard that is correct: there are Karl Rove conspiracy theorists here. There was 5 mentions of Karl Rove and some connections to conspiracies. Some of these people are crazy. Some call Bush a chimp, others call him a liar, that that is just on some of the responses to this. I can't stand people who slander the President on just about everything under the sun, accusing him of war crimes and lying to the American people about the WMD, which was based on faulty intellegence that should have been vetted by the CIA and which Democrats  in the late 1990's said Saddam had these, as well as intellegence agencies from other countries, like Russia.

Well, that is my rant for today.

A Day in My HS
05.02.05 (3:53 pm)   [edit]

Well, I figure that I should tell y'all about a typical day in my school. I'm not sure if this applies to every HS student, but I think that most of this is universial in some form or fashion. Now, without further ado, my typical day in HS (all times EST):

7:45-8:41AM: Report to first hour, Logic and Ethics. The regular teacher isn't there because of some kidney stones and had to have surgery to remove them, so what are we to do, in a class where, if you paid $400 you can get this class for college credit, when the teacher isn't here? Well, you watch a talking head. Well, technically, it is a video recorded lecture by my teacher. We are in the Ethics portion of the class, and now began studying about Immauel Kant. It is kinda funny when the teacher calls on your name during his video tapped lecture.

8:46-9:42AM: Second hour, Woodwork I. We get to make various items out of wood (duh!!!). Those items include: Names, wall mirrors, picture frame, poker tables, marble hockey tables, knock hockey tables. Some work, others bitch about other things. I do some work WHILE bitch about other things. I cannot believe how hard it is to make a simple f**king BOX!!!

9:47-10:45AM: American Government. Right now, we are in the "Congress" section of the teachings. We had to make up bills to submit for a mock Congressional session that we are role playing now. There are 2 classes in Government (or two different hours for Government, 3rd hour and 6th hour). 3rd hour (my hour) is the House of Representatives since that class is bigger than 6th hour. Yours truly is the Speaker of the House, elected by my fellow classmates. We each chose our own state to represent (mine is Arizona), and we went about in committees formed by the teacher. We debate the bills in our committees, then we bring them to a vote. The 6th hour is the Senate (obviously), so they picked out their President of the Senate (or VP) and their President pro temp.

10:50-10:56AM: Homeroom. That is where we get our announcements and other items. Not much exciting happening there.

11:01-12:03PM: Human Physiology. That is where we study the human body. So far, we have disected sheep brians, hearts, kidneys, and rats. In the near future, we will be disecting fetal pigs. We are on the genetics part. I have some weird classmates there (don't we all), and the whole class gets a good laugh every once in a while.

12:08-12:33PM: Lunch. That is where I hang out with my posse. We talk about various things, as well as bitch about other things. Overall, we have a fun time.

12:38-1:35PM: Spanish II. This is the next level of Spanish. There is Spanish I, II, and III. I am having a hard time remembering the words, but it is comming along fine.

1:40-2:38PM: Geometry. Math, math, and drawings, as well as more math. Circles, triangles, quadrilaterals, and other items. This is my last hour of the school day. After that, I go home and relax.

Well, I hope you enjoy reading this as it gives you somewhat of an idea of what I have to go throughout the day. Since I am a Senior, I get to get out on May 27, but don't have to attend graduations until June 9th. I will let you all know how that goes.

Feel free to tell everyone about your typical day.
